1400 mm water supply pipeline burst; traders suffer losses in lakhs

Aurangabad, Feb 7:

The 1400 mm water supply pipeline burst in front of Hotel VITS at 3 am today causing waterlogging in adjoining shops and apartments.

As reported earlier by this newspaper, the work of close circuit TV cameras installation is in progress in the city under Smart City project.

The contractor used breaker to lay cable near Hotel VITS Chowk on Saturday. Traders said that the water pipeline had developed cracks while laying the cable.

The pipeline burst suddenly and water jets were high up to 25 to 30 feet in the air. There are kiosks and small shops just five feet away from the spot.

Tin-sheds of kiosks were collapsed because of water flow. Some traders reached there at 4 am and while others at 7 am just to their damaged shops.

The traders informed to Aurangabad Municipal Corporation and Police. There was water in the whole area till the water supply was stopped from Nakshetrawadi at 3.30 am.

There was water-logging in some apartments while the compound wall of one of the apartments fell. No AMC officer turned up to the spot even such a loss of traders.

Executive engineer of Water Supply Department Kiran Dhande completed the repair work through contractor till 12 noon.

Water supply was restored after the repair work. The Civic Body will supply water to those colonies which were deprived of water because of pipeline bursting, on Monday.

Sandeep Patil, Sagar Patil, Gaurav Desai, Anand Palaspagar, Ravi Patil suffered huge shops' losses.

A vendor Prakash Surbhaiyye, an electric shop owner Harprit Singh Chhabda, Safal Raison (hotelier) suffered huge losses because of waterlogging. Tapadia Diagnostic Centre was also damaged.

All traders demanded that the AMC should provide them financial assistance on humanitarian ground. The traders had just restarted their business after lockdown.
