24-hr online event marks Environment Day

Aurangabad, June 5:

On the occasion of World Environment Day and launch of “Decade of Restoration” by United Nations Environment Programme, Act Now, an Indian NGO, working for environmental awareness and climate action, organized a unique 24-hour long non-stop live online event, “Peace Is Green-Every Act Matters” on June 4-5.

The event was inaugurated by Tim Christophersen, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Head of Ecosystems Division, along with Dr Biswajit Saha, Director of Central Board of Secondary Education, Government of India. A magazine was also launched.

The event was joined by environment and climate, wildlife, forest, mountain, ocean and blue economy experts, youth activists, educators, students, and the thinkers from over 70 countries!

Speakers included Tim Christophersen, Dr Biswajit Saha, Nigel Topping, UN COP26 Climate Champion, Peter Hillary, mountaineer and son of legendary Edmund Hillary, Niall Maccan, National Geographic Explorer, Bittu Sahgal, Founder, Sanctuary Asia, Mika Vanhanen, Founder, Environment Online, Ridhima Pandey youth activist, India, Misimi Isimi, Nigeria, Felix Finkbeiner, Germany, Lindsey Coffey, Miss Earth 2020, Nicole Faria, Miss Earth 2010 and Jordan Sanchez, poet and voice behind UNEP launch video, Sirpa Pietikinen, Member of European Parliament.

Founder of Act Now and main organizer Rajiv Shrivastava said that Act Now will work proactively with UNEP and other agencies towards the goal of ecosystem restoration.

Co-host Dr Nayer Iqbal from Pearls Academy Aurangabad said we can tackle climate change only through a pragmatic approach and for that; we need to act (now) immediately.
