39 students from Latur hostel tested positive for COVID-19

Aurangabad, Feb 23: As many as 39 students and 7 staff from a hostel of Swami Vivekanand Integration English School run by JSPM institute situated in Latur’s MIDC area (Marathwada region) have been tested positive for Covid-19, Latur Municipal Corporation health officer Mahesh Patil told Lokmat Times.

A total of 360 outside students live in the hostel and all of them underwent testing for the virus. Of them, only 39 have been infected by the coronavirus. At least 60 teaching and non-teaching staff work on the hostel premises. Of those, 30 underwent the test yesterday and of them, seven have been tested positive for the virus so far.

Patil said, “The tests were conducted after a girl from the hostel, who arrived on Saturday to our Covid-19 Centre located in India Nagar area, tested positive. Following her contract tracing, 14 students underwent tests on the second day and 13 of them were found infected. Therefore, our health workers team reached the hostel for testing of all students. Out of 360 students, 39 tested positive. The latter have been quarantined in the Government Hostel, located at 12 No Pati near the city.”
