50K policemen affected due to government decision

Aurangabad, May 10:

The government decision to include 636 candidates, disqualified by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) in the police force as PSIs has directly affected around 50,000 policemen in the state preparing for the departmental PSI Competitive Exam. As this issue is sub judice and hence the MPSC has not released the advertisement for the recruitment of the posts of PSIs for the past three years.

MPSC recruits 50 percent posts of PSI in the state through direct recruitment and 25 percent through the departmental competitive examination and the remaining 25 percent posts are filled through promotions. The commission in 2016, implemented the recruitment procedure to fill 828 vacant PSI posts. The commission had disqualified the candidates due to less marks and selected 154 candidates from the promotion category. Meanwhile, the court cancelled the reservation in promotions and hence the selection of 154 candidates were cancelled and hence the merit reduced till 230 marks. Around 636 candidates disqualified by the commission requested the government that they are also eligible as the merit marks limit has gone down. Hence, the then state government included them in the service. The other candidates challenged this decision in the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT) and presently is sub judice. The decision has directly affected around 50,000 policemen in the force preparing for the departmental PSI examination.
