Aurangabad, July 14: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of late freedom fighter Jawaharlalji Darda, founder of Lokmat, 86 soldiers spontaneously donated blood in a camp held at Bharat Battalion in Satara area on Wednesday.

The surgeries, which were delayed due to Covid infection, resumed after one and a half years. Taking into view the acute shortage of blood in the state, Lokmat Group undertook the initiative 'Lokmat Raktache Nate'. Madhukar Satpute, commander of Bharat Battalion donated blood and inaugurated the camp. After this, the soldiers lined up for blood donation. Following the social distance and wearing masks, 86 soldiers donated blood in just two and a half hours.

Rajendra Darda, Editor-in-Chief of Lokmat was the chief guest. Blood donors were honored with certificates by Rajendra Darda. The commander said that since the establishment of the Bharat Battalion, the soldiers have managed to plant and nurture about 50,000 trees in this area. In addition, every drop of rain falling on the hills and the surrounding area goes in the ground. He also said that this has increased the groundwater level. Blood was collected by a government blood bank at Government Medical College and Hospital. Under the guidance of Commander Satpute, assistant commander Iliyas Sheikh, assistant commander Dilip Taware, PSI S Chavan, Pradip Patole, Vishal Pagare, Constable Purushottam Aghav, Rajabhau Khatane, Shivraj Patwari and Umesh Tejankar took efforts.

550 jawans beat Corona

The jawans of the Bharat Battalion had been on a bandobast in Covid areas since last year. Hence, 550 soldiers got infected. However, due to the efforts of the doctors and keeping the morale high, all the affected soldiers overcame Covid, said Commander Satpute. He also lauded the Lokmat's mega blood donation camp.
