AAI installs surveillance radar to control air traffic; safety of aircrafts

Aurangabad, Feb 16:

To control the air traffic, ensure the safety of aircrafts and its on-board passengers, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has installed a state-of-the-art Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) at the Chikalthana Airport. The hi-tech radar will help officials to manage the traffic passing through a high altitude. Moreover, it is ascertained that the system will be of great help to manage the traffic of national and international flights from the local airport in future.

The radar is installed near the compound wall of the airport. Hence it is catching the attention of vehicle-owners and others passing through the Jalna Road. It rotates 360 degrees. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has shared the information about the installation of MSSR, benefitting the Air Traffic Management, through social media on Tuesday.

The radar will help to control the inbound and overflying air traffic. AAI can also transfer the radar data to Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS)/ Air Traffic Management (ATM) automation systems in other cities.

MSSR is installed in Mumbai, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. In Maharashtra, the absence of radar between Mumbai and Nagpur was pushing AAI authorities to face hardship in managing the air traffic. It will now help manage the air traffic safely and smoothly, it is said.

According to AAI's joint general manager Sharad Yeole, " The air traffic in Aurangabad is increasing gradually. MSSR plays a vital role in controlling air traffic safely. The flights in air space of Aurangabad could also be seen in Mumbai and Nagpur. The installation of radar will be of great help in future."
