Accused cheated to 1 more person in Ratnagiri

Aurangabad, June 7:

The con man who was arrested by local Cybercrime police from Bihar, confessed to cheating a person at Ratnagiri one year ago.

According to details, Cyber Crime police arrested the accused Nitishkumar Jitendrasingh Prasad (26, Hathiyari, Navada, Bihar) from his village on June 4 after the cheated to the tune of Rs 56.65 lakh on the pretext of helping the complainant in getting LPG gas agency.

Nitishkumar is in police custody of Cybercrime Police since then. Police sources said that the accused used to develop a website like a Government undertaking company from a software company in Delhi.

“He used to share a link of the website on social media to attract people. The accused had some accomplices in the crime. People apply, considering this as a real website. Disguising as LPG Company officer, he collected money online in installments from gas agency aspirants. In similar style, he cheated to an industrialist from the city to the tune of Rs 56 lakh,” police sources said.

When police brought him here from his village, Ratnagiri Police informed the local police that they had a similar registered case last year.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed to cheating Santosh Prabhakar Bandu (55, Waigani Phata, Ratnagiri) to the tune of Rs 5.20 lakh. He had assured Santosh of helping to get gas agency. The local police will hand over the accused to Ratnagiri Police after the investigation is over.

Police inspector Geeta Bagwade said that a team of cyberpolice left for Delhi to probe the companies that helped the accused develop websites like the Government companies portal. The companies charge between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 per website development.
