Accused in bogus sports certificate case purchase two cars, lands

Aurangabad, March 24:

The accused of providing bogus sports certificates to the candidates in the Trampoline and tumbling sports events, Ankush Pralhad Rathod (Paregaon, Jalna) purchased two luxurious cars amounting Rs 30 lakh and lands in Jalna and Aurangabad amounting Rs 25 lakh. Meanwhile, the court has extended the police custody of the accused arrested in the case till March 27.

According to the crime branch officers, the then deputy director (retired) of the sports deputy directorate, Rajkumar Dattatray Mahadwad and suspended sports officer Bhavrao Ramdas Veer along with Ankush Rathod and Shankar Shamrao Patange issued bogus state and national level sports certificates to around 259 candidates for gaining government jobs. Veer and Mahadwad used to verify these certificates due to which the candidates could gain government jobs on the five percent reservation quota for sportspersons. The accused took lakhs of rupees from the candidates. Maximum certificates were issued through Ankush Rathod. He purchased around 25 acres land in Jalna district and purchased two cars amounting Rs 30 lakh. He also purchased land in Jalna and Aurangabad districts. The police are investigating the documents of his property now and also gaining the information of the properties of other accused, the police said.

Under the guidance of PI, Avinash Aghav, PSI, Manoj Shinde is further investigating the case.
