Admissions date for RTE quota extended; 850 admissions confirmed in 20 days

Aurangabad, July 1:

The Education Department has extended the last of admissions in schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act quota was extended up to July 9.

A total of 850 parents confirmed the admissions of their children up to Thursday in the district while 1128 students were admitted provisionally.

The remaining 1500 parents have not responded to the admissions yet.

RTE Parents Association demanded that the education department should stop schools from squashing parents to expedite the admission process.

It may be noted that there are 3,625 seats in 603 private schools of the district.

The names of 3,470 students were selected for the admissions through the draw of lots. The parents of selected students were asked to confirm admissions in the schools between June 11 and 30. Only 850 admissions were confirmed in 20 days.

The date was extended up to July 9. A total of 25 per cent of seats are reserved in the schools for economically weaker sections of society. All the students are admitted free of cost as the State Government pays their fees. Schools are demanding fees from parents, citing the reason that the Government does not refund the fees.

RTE Parents Association president Prashant Sathe alleged that private English schools a harassing parents for fees.

He said that such a type of attitude of schools would lead to depriving of education of a poor and economically weaker section of society.
