AMC engineers gheraoed for water

Aurangabad, Jan 27: Angry residents of Mayurnagar, Sudarshannagar and other localities of Hudco N-11 sector gheraoed the engineers of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for an hour for water during their 'thiyya andolan' (sit-in agitation) after the water supply to their areas went haywire on Thursday afternoon.

The agitation ended and the engineers were allowed to go after assurance of supplying water as per the schedule. Meanwhile, the AMC engineers said that no such incident had occurred and underlined that they were invited to have cups of jaggery tea.

As per schedule, the above areas were to receive water today, but the residents got angry when the water supply did not restore even after six hours. They inquired with the deputy engineers and others, and when the reply was not satisfactory, they opted for the agitation near the water valve. Later, the AMC officers and employees reached the scene. The residents forced all of them to join and sit with them for one hour. The agitation ended only after the deputy engineer gave the assurance of supplying water as per the schedule in future. Ramesh Idhate, Kiran Khare, Kailas Pawar, Vijay Jadhav and others participated in the agitation.
