AMC hopes vaccination drive to gain momentum after June 21

Aurangabad, June 9:

Acting upon the orders of the union Government, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) launched the vaccination drive on January 16, 2021. Since then, the drive was vaccinating citizens from various age groups along with the health care workers (HCW) and frontline workers (FLW). However, it got disappointed as the response to the drive was not as expected. Of the total population of the city, AMC could vaccinate 3.20 lakh citizens. It includes the first dose of vaccine by 2.37 lakh citizens and the second dose by 82,954 persons. The officials, however, are hoping the vaccination drive would gain momentum after June 21 as the drive to administer the vaccine to the age group of 18 to 44 years will be resuming after a long gap.

In stages, the vaccination was administered to citizens of age 60 years and above, age group of 45 to 59 years, HCWs, FLWs, etc. There was an overwhelming response to the drive during the initial days. Later on, the government increased the gap between two doses by 84 days. Two days ago, the union Government announced the implementation of a vaccination drive for the age group of 18 to 44 years from June 21. Hence to implement the drive successfully, the AMC is planning to restart the vaccination centres in all 115 wards of the city.
