AMC orders 'facility managers' to make special food packets for elderly patients in CCCs

Aurangabad, May 13:

Taking cognizance of the news published in Lokmat Times (Aurangabad First) on dated May 5, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) city engineer S D Panzade has issued a letter to the 'Facility Managers' of all Covid Care Centres (CCC) to coordinate with the medical officers and the caterers and serve special food packets (of less quantity) to elderly patients immediately.

The city engineer mentioned that the issue has been brought to notice by the newspaper and through a memorandum by an NGO Anna Vachawa Samiti (AVS). The letter stated that the food is served in regular quantity to all the patients. However, it has come to notice that due to ailment the aged patients consume less quantity of meals. As a result, the remaining quantity of food from the packet served to them gets wasted and is being thrown away in the dustbins.

Hence to reduce the food wastage, he directed the facility managers to obtain details of elderly patients getting admitted to the CCCs from respective medical officers, hold discussions with these patients and then serve the quantity of the food as per their demand. This would enable to avoid wastage of food, he stated.

The city engineer, who is also the nodal officer, also ordered the facility managers to alert the caterers at their level and implement the order with immediate effect and save the food. The order copy highlighting action taken has been also sent to the AMC administrator and the municipal officer of health (MoH) for their notice.

Aurangabad First had highlighted the series of news highlighting food waste on two consecutive days - May 4 and 5. The newspaper feels it is a moral responsibility of all to avoid food wastage, especially during the present pandemic situation.

Under headlines 'Saving food in CCC is need of the hour' (on May 4) and 'Separate Food Packets for elderly; AMC to take steps to reduce food wastage in CCCs ' (on May 5) the news highlighted that the food served by AMC through caterers is of regular quantity to all the patients undergoing treatment in the CCCs. However, the elders demanded to serve less quantity of food due to their age, but none of them paid heed to their request. The elders claimed that they are concerned about the leftover food after their consumption in the food packets. This was being thrown in dustbins on regular basis.

" I thank the newspaper from my bottom of the heart for taking up the issue with responsibility and contributing in our movement to reduce wastage of food (i.e. save the food)," said the AVS convenor Anant Motale.
