AMC, police collect fine of Rs 2.5 cr from violators during lockdown

Aurangabad, June 22:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Department of Police (DoP) have collected a fine of Rs 2.50 crore from the citizens violating the Covid-19 guidelines and vehicle-owners violated the traffic norms during the lockdown, this year. The AMC has collected a fine of Rs 1.46 crore from citizens roaming in the city without wearing facemasks and the police administration collected a fine of Rs 1.02 crore from vehicle-owners violating the traffic norms in a span of three months.

As reported earlier, the administration was repeatedly appealing to the citizens to follow guidelines and instructions during the first wave and the second wave of Covid-19. However, many citizens took the appeal for granted. As a result, to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the city, the AMC deployed Nagrik Mitra Pathak. The squad comprises 70 personnel. They would visit different parts of the city and levy the fine (on the spot) if any person is spotted roaming without wearing a facemask. They would collect a fine of Rs 500 from each violator. Accordingly, the squad has collected a fine of Rs 1.46 crore. On other hand, the police administration also recorded 29,485 cases against different types of violators and collected a fine of Rs 1.02 crore.

The city traffic inspector Mukund Deshmukh said, " We resorted to 'nakabandi' during the lockdown. Each vehicle-owner passing by the checking points was being inquired. The aim was to reduce the traffic on the road. We took penal action against vehicle-owners riding their vehicles during lockdown without any valid reason. The duration of lockdown was more this year compared to the last year. Hence we had taken adequate measures to maintain law and order situation."
