AMC to keep open tax collection windows on all holidays

Aurangabad, Jan 1:

To enhance the revenue collection and avoid inconvenience to tax-payers in paying the taxes, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has ordered all the nine zone offices to keep open their tax collection windows on all public holidays and Saturdays till the March-end.

The deputy commissioner and assessor and collector of tax Aparna Thete has issued a circular stating that the tax collection windows in all nine zones will remain open on all public holidays and Saturdays (on regular timings). Besides, the cash counters will also remain open on Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm. The decision is taken so that the citizens should not face any inconvenience in paying any tax.

As reported earlier, there are around 2.75 lakh property-holders, on AMC record, in the city. The target collection of property tax for the current financial year is Rs 468 crore, however, the civic officials succeeded in collecting Rs 55 crore only till the last week of December 2020. As a result, it is a quite big challenge for the AMC officials to recover a huge amount in just three months.

Adding to the woes, in the first week of December, the AMC experienced a shock when 303 cheques of amounting Rs 3.24 crore were dishonoured by the banks. The citizens had paid the property tax in the form of cheques to evade the action against them.
