AMC to submit affidavit on behalf of divisional commissioner in Apex Court!

Aurangabad, Feb 9:

The municipal administration section at the divisional commissionerate has informed the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to submit an affidavit (on his behalf) in connection with a petition filed in the Supreme Court, challenging the delimitation of wards and declaration of social reservation of wards, it is learnt. It has to be submitted during the next hearing which will be held on March 9. During the last hearing, the Apex Court had ordered the divisional commissioner to submit his say.

The divisional administration has no role in the AMC's restructurisation of wards and its election process to declare social reservation of wards. Hence the issue has been shifted to AMC. On behalf of the divisional commissioner, it will now submit the affidavit in the court, said the sources.

The State Election Commission (SEC) secretary Kiran Kurundkar said, " The SEC lawyer is asked to remain present in the hearing to be held in the Apex Court in connection with the AMC elections. Earlier, the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court had given a detailed verdict. It had accepted the action of the SEC. The Apex Court will now verify it and then give its verdict after hearing. Accordingly, the SEC's next action solely depends upon the verdict to be given on March 9. The AMC will submit the affidavit of the divisional commissioner, but the main respondents in the petition are AMC, SEC and the state government."
