APMC crowded again as farmers start trading

Aurangabad, March 18:

Farmers and retailers, on Thursday, disobeyed the verbal orders of the district administration and opened the Jadhavwadi Agriculture Produce Market Committee (AMPC). As a result, the market was once again crowded.

The district administration had ordered to keep the vegetable market closed from March 11 to 17 due to the rising number of covid patients. As the vegetables were perishable, farmers and retailers started selling them on the road outside the APMC. The police however took action against such vendors and farmers. The lockdown period came to an end on March 17. As a result, the farmers brought vegetables in large quantities for sale. The wholesalers had also ordered fruits and vegetables from other states. However, on Wednesday, the district administration informed the APMC to close the vegetable market. But this caused outrage among the farmers who brought vegetables. Some political leaders also reached the market committee. The farmers then started training in the early morning. Again, thousands of people had gathered at the APMC. Some were wearing masks while others were floating norms.

Municipal administration shirks responsibility

It is the responsibility of the corporation to allow retailers to sell vegetables by allocating space to them in different parts of the city. Only wholesale transactions take place in the APMC. However, as the corporation administration is shirking its responsibility, a huge crowd gathers in the Jadhavwadi market committee for buying and selling vegetables said, Radhakisan Pathade, Chairman APMC.
