ASCDCL conducts fresh structural audit of Mehmood Darwaza; to float tender soon

Aurangabad, July 19:

The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) has conducted a structural audit of the dilapidated heritage structure Mehmood Darwaza (Gate), situated near world-famous Panchakki, recently. The special purpose vehicle (SPV) will soon prepare a fresh estimate and float the tender to conserve the cross-gate, soon.

Sensing danger due to the deteriorating condition of the gate, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) closed the road, passing through the gate, for the vehicles to avoid an untoward incident, for the past week. The closure of the route is posing severe inconvenience to vehicle-owners staying in localities, across the gate (on the west side), as they are coerced to take long roads passing through either Barapulla Gate or Makkai Gate. Hence they demanded to undertake the repair and

maintenance of this heritage structure on top priority.

Earlier, the ASCDCL floated tenders to conserve the city's nine gates, including Mehmood Darwaza (for Rs 56 lakh), in December 2019. However, there was no response from a single contractor to it, except eight gates. According to the contractors, the estimated cost of Rs 56 lakh is low and needs to be revised. The conservation works of all eight gates are nearing completion. In the past two years, the ASCDCL failed to make an effort and prepare a new and revised estimate.

Mehmood Darwaza came into the news after the beautiful arch of it got damaged due to a dash by a vehicle. The stone slabs fell on the ground and it was feared that more stone blocks could also fell. Sensing seriousness, the ward office sealed tin sheets and closed the entry for vehicles.

Meanwhile, the ASCDCL has re-conducted the structural audit of the gate. It will prepare a new estimate and publish the tender to rope in the competent contractor. However, the process is time-consuming, but ASCDCL has claimed of floating the tender in 10 days, it is learnt.
