Bamu launching PG Diploma in Virology course

Aurangabad, April 1:

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) is launching a one-year postgraduate diploma course in Virology from the academic year 2021-22 in the backdrop of COVID spread.

Dr Gulab Khedkar said that the objective of the course to provide trained and skilled manpower.

The university started a COVID testing laboratory under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) last year. Vice-chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole decided to run different courses through the laboratory.

The Academic Council of Bamu approved the PG Diploma course in Virology. Only selected 15 candidates will be given admission in the first batch. A separate building for DNA Barcoding and COVID test laboratory is being developed. The building will have a virology laboratory equipped with all the latest facilities.

VC Dr Pramod Yeole said that two COVID test laboratories were started at city and Osmanabad sub-centre campuses considering the spread of COVID. “There is a need to study new viruses like COVID. So, a one year course in Virology will be started soon,” he said.

The online registration process for the course commenced on Thursday. Graduates from Science, Medical Science and Pharmacy faculties are eligible for admissions.
