Birds safe from Bird flu

Aurangabad, Jan 13:

The birds in the district are safe from bird flu as not a single death has been reported of the birds due to this epidemic, informed district collector Sunil Chavan in a press conference here on Wednesday.

Chavan said, not a single unnatural death of birds has been reported in the district. There are 131 poultry farms with more than 5,000 chicken and 200 farms less than that. The survey of all these farms have began, he said.

Similarly, no unnatural deaths of the migratory birds were reported at Jayakwadi, Nandur Madhyameshwar dams and other lakes. The residents have been appealed to inform the village development office, grampanchayat head or the animal husbandry department in case of unnatural deaths of birds. The administration is prepared to stop the infection.

The poultry owners have been issued directives. They should not dispose the poultry if any infection is found and should inform the authorities immediately, informed deputy commissioner Prashant Chaudhary.

Additional district collector, Dr Anant Gavhane, Dr B S Naikwade and other officers were present.

Chavan said, the bird flu virus is destroyed if the eggs and chicken is boiled above 70 degrees Celsius for half an hour. It is completely safe to eat eggs and chicken. Half cooked meat of raw meat should not be eaten. People should not spread any rumours about bird flu, appealed Chavan.
