Aurangabad, Feb 22: A speeding car veered off the road divider and hit an oncoming private bus leaving five occupants dead on the spot near Devgad T-point on Ahmednagar-Aurangabad road at 2.30 am on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Shantanu Nayabrao Kakade (38, Jaipur), Kailas Vinod Newre, (37), Ramesh Dashrath Ghuge (34, both residents of Meskheda) and Narayan Digamber Warkad (24, Taltondi of Mantha tehsil in Jalna district).

The ill-fated car (MH-21-BF-7178) was on its way toward Ahmednagar. Its driver lost his control on the car after which it veered off and came to the other side of the divider to hit the travel bus (MH-19-Y07123).

The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the car got entangled into the bus front. Locals and Newasa police reached the accident site, salvaged the bodies of the victims and took them to a nearby rural health centre where all the victims were examined and declared dead upon arrival by the medical officers.

The Newasa police have registered a case and handed over the bodies to the relatives after the post-mortem.
