Central Government team starts Cleanliness Survey 2021

A Central Government team comprising 12 members has arrived in the city for the inspection under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on Monday. The members started their inspection but are likely to wind up their task due to reporting of more than 1,000 Covid-19 patients in the city daily, it is learnt.

The members had a meeting with Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research Centre on Monday evening. The head of solid waste management (SWM) Nandkishore Bhombe, and all the sanitary inspectors were present in the meeting. There are 115 wards in the jurisdiction of AMC. Hence, each member will be surveying 9-10 wards. They will be visiting places in their jurisdiction with the assistance of the sanitary inspectors.

Accordingly, the team members started the cleanliness survey today morning. The central theme of the survey is 'Garbage-free City'. The AMC officials were unaware of the visit plans as the inspection duties (ward wise) were being allotted to the team members through phone calls from the Central Government officials. The team members inspected various wards till the afternoon, interacted with the citizens. Later on, they got worried when they came to know about the rapid spread of Coronavirus infection in the city. They contacted the senior officials to halt the survey, said the sources. The teams agreed to resume the survey after the situation gets normal in the city. However, no order about stopping the survey was received till today evening, added the sources.
