Compensation of Rs 39 lakh sanctioned to 31 temporary workers of Bajaj

Aurangabad, April 28:

A total of Rs 39 lakh compensation has been ordered to 31 temporary workers of Bajaj Company by labour court Judged D V Joshi and Judge V S Deshmukh in two separate decisions. Accordingly, Bajaj Auto Limited has paid checks to 27 out of 31 persons and the rest 4 will be handed the cheques on May 2.

A total of 194 temporary workers, working in the company since 1990 who have been working as welders, fitter, turner, mechanic and grinder, filed a complaint of industrial dispute in the Aurangabad labour court through adv Sandeep Rajebhasale. Out of them, 60 workers appeared in court to testify. According to the complaint, the management used to give work to the workers for only 7 months. They alleged that the management had misappropriated 240 days of service to the total number of workers and did not allow them to get the right to permanent employment. While disposing of the application, the labour court had ordered the company to calculate the duration of their service and the final salary taken by them and pay the compensation to the workers accordingly. Following the court order, the management of the company has completed all the procedures and paid compensation to 31 workers as above. The decision on the remaining 29 temporary workers had been reserved in the court. Adv Sandeep Rajebhosale represented the applicants. He was assisted by adv Sudhir Kumar Ghonghade, adv Gayatri Rajebhosale, adv Samruddhi Deshmukh-Bhairav, Akash Bagal and Dinesh Chavan.
