Aurangabad, July 21:
To reduce the use of wood for cremation and introduce a more eco-friendly solution, the municipal corporation decided to use wood briquettes at city crematoriums. The tenders were floated four times. However only one company showed interest in supplying the briquettes. The sample of the briquette has been sent to a laboratory in Pune.
Wood is widely used for cremation. As an alternative to wood, the municipal corporation introduced electric crematorium in city. But it was not successful. Hence nearly all 16 crematoriums in the city use wood for cremation. Gas crematoriums were installed at four crematoriums. But the use of wood increased tremendously during covid crisis, hence putting the environment at risk. The municipal administrator Astik Kumar Pandey decided to use briquettes for cremation. Thus to stop use of wood, briquettes created from Soybean and Sugarcane husk and recycled paper will be used for cremation. The municipal corporation floated the tenders four times. However, only one company showed interest in the tender. The samples of briquettes were sent to a laboratory in Pune for testing. The work order will be issued after the report is received.Open in app
