DCH resumes cataract operations after six months

The Department of Ophthalmology (DOO), which comes under District Civil Hospital, has performed cataract surgeries on four senior citizens at its hospital situated at Aam Khas Maidan, today. The DOO resumed surgeries after a gap of six long months.

Under the guidance of civil surgeon, Dr S V Kulkarni, by in-charge district ophthalmic surgeon Dr Santosh Kale, Dr Rupa Ambekar, Dr Saqeeb Khan, Dr Shirsaat and others performed today''s operations.

The inconvenience of elderly persons, especially those hailing from a poor financial background, as they would be able to see the world through their eyes after cataract operations. The operations were not held due to Covid-19 pandemic situation in Maharashtra since March.

The experts feared that hundreds of patients might lose their eyesight forever if their cataract converts into glaucoma if there is a delay in surgeries. Hence the newspaper had published the news highlighting the core issue in August.

Meanwhile, the state president of Government Ophthalmic Officers Association Dr Mahesh Vaishav thanked the newspaper for taking up the issue as it helped to resume cataract operations soon. It would now avoid inconvenience to the poor and needy people.
