Deceased COVID patient’s relatives found; perform last rites after 4-day

Aurangabad, April 17:

The dead body of Vijay Pandurang More, a 52-year-old man who died at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) while undergoing COVID treatment on April 13, was lying in a mortuary for four days.

The address of Vijay More was mentioned from Dhakephal in Paithan tehsil while admitting him on April 8 was wrong.

GMCH superintendent (social worker department) Dr Balaji Deshmukh contacted on the given two mobile numbers after the patient’s death on April 13.

One contact was switched off while on another mobile number, it was unclear whether the number belongs to the patient’s relatives. Dr Deshmukh launched a search for the relatives of the deceased. The dead body was kept in a mortuary for four days.

Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar contacted the superintendent of police Mokshada Patil to search for the patient’s relatives.

Medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Balaji Deshmukh, Santosh Pawar, resident medical officer Pratiksha Swami and Sanjay Wakudkar coordinated in the search.

The relatives were found finally from Pimpalwadi, Paithan and the last rites were performed on his body. They said that there was confusion because of the wrong address.

The nephew of the deceased shocked to see his uncle dead. His blood pressure was reported low because of this.
