Decision on lockdown today: Collector

Aurangabad, March 25:

Guardian minister Subhash Desai hinted at the implementation of the lockdown in the district after a review meeting today. Speaking late this evening, district collector Sunil Chavan stated that there was no option left but to enforce the lockdown and the final decision in this regard will be taken on Friday. Municipal administrator A K Pandey also underlined the need for a lockdown.

In the afternoon, Desai had told newsmen, "Following the rise in Covid-19 patients, the public representatives had made some suggestions regarding the lockdown. The decision upon them will be taken after having a discussion with the health department and the chief minister."

The collector said tonight, “It is certain that the lockdown will be implemented in the district. I would not be able to tell the date."

Earlier, Desai said, "The partial lockdown was implemented so that the common people do not face inconvenience. However, the health department has suggested taking necessary steps immediately before the situation goes out of control. The lockdown has been implemented in Nanded, Parbhani and Beed districts. Daily nearly 1,500 patients are being detected in Aurangabad. Priority now will be to save the lives of the people"

Suggestions by public representatives

MLC Ambadas Danve called for an order refraining the revellers from celebrating Holi and Rang Panchami. The agitations and morchas should also be banned in the district. MLA Pradeep Jaiswal recommended the closure of medical shops which are not on the campus of hospitals. MLC Satish Chavan demanded to provide information about the beds in CCCs and the hospitals in the district. He also suggested providing Shiv Bhojan Thali for labourers who would be affected the most if the lockdown is implemented.

Later on, the administration gave a presentation to the public representatives highlighting the details like total number of Covid patients, number of active patients, availability of beds in various hospitals, percentage of vaccination, the total number of beds in ICUs and total testing centres in the district.
