Demand to provide adequate quantity of injections to save mucormycosis patients

Aurangabad, June 17:

The patients, who have recovered from Covid-19 are struggling with mucormycosis, in the city. The patients hailing from 15 districts are undergoing treatment. However, the relatives of serious patients had to face hardship in procuring injection from the district collectorate, so as to save their patients from the fungal infection.

Presently there is a severe shortage of injection in the city. Hence the relatives demanded to allot an adequate quantity of injection and do justice to their patients.

It may be noted that 3 to 5 Amphotericin B injections are administered to each patient daily. The administration is not supplying the stock with more than 100 injections. The relatives complained of facing severe inconvenience due to the non-availability of injections for the past three days. The private hospitals have also informed the relatives of patients to arrange for the injections on their own.

49 patients-relative in queue

A total of 49 relatives of patients today were eagerly waiting to obtain the injection from 12 noon to 3 pm at the district collectorate. They claimed that their patients are in a very critical situation and private hospitals are not cooperating with them at this hour. Hence we had arrived at the district collectorate. It is also difficult to get a treatment facility under Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana stressed the relatives Vinay Sakhala, Kiran Hazari, Javed Tamboli, Sudarshan Pawar, Ketaki Joshi, and Namdeo Sonawane. The injection is neither available in the city nor the administration is providing it.

The district collector Sunil Chavan said, " There is a shortage of injection, but we are pursuing the matter so that we could get additional stock of injections. Presently, the supply of injection is being made as per the stock received from the government."

Patients from 15 districts

There are 258 patients suffering from mucormycosis of Aurangabad and 446 others from various parts of Marathwada and neighbouring districts are undergoing treatment in the city. The supply of injection should be made on the basis of the strength of patients. Presently, the patients hailing from 15 districts including Thane, Nandurbar, Solapur, Pune, Dhule, Akola, Latur, Nasik, Hingoli, Nanded, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Beed, Parbhani, and Jalna are in various hospitals along with their relatives. Hence the supply of excess stock of injections in the city is need of the hour, it is learnt.
