Domestic air cargo service starts from city

After the relaxation in the lockdown rules, the cargo service has been regularized once again from the Chikalthana Airport. Indigo Airlines has transported 33.5 tons cargo in the past one month from the city.

It may be recalled that the old terminal building was transformed into cargo terminal at Airport from June 1, 2016. However, it was hampered after the closure of Jet Airways. The cargo service was regularized again on December 30, 2019, when SpiceJet, TruJet and Air India started services to various Chikalthana Airport destinations.

After the Corona outburst, the cargo service from the city hampered. After the relaxation in the lockdown rules, the cargo service has been regularized from June 19. Various goods from the city is sent to other cities and brought in the city through the domestic cargo service. Indigo Airline has transported 33.5 tons goods in the past one month after the regularization of the service. The capacity of the Chikalthana Airport to transport goods is around 20 tons daily.

Airport director, D G Salve said that the air cargo service has been regularized again and it is possible to transports goods to various cities within few hours. Similarly, there is a rise in the passengers load gradually, he said.
