Don't let the Covid-19 numbers escalate out of hands - Dr Yelikar

Aurangabad, Feb 23:

We might lose the battle against Covid-19 if people ignore the guidelines put in place to stop the spread of the virus. If people continue to be ignorant, the situation might turn similar to Akola, Yavatmal and Amravati, said dean of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dr Kanan Yelikar.

She was speaking at a press conference held in the GMCH on Tuesday. Dr Yelikar said the GMCH is ready for treating new patients. However, citizens need to act responsibly. Corona has claimed many lives over the past year. But with proper caution and responsibility, the lives of these people might have been saved, she said. Head of the medicine department Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya said if there is a cold, cough, fever it should be immediately reported to a doctor. Corona can be prevented 100 per cent. The use of the mask is important. Medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Jagannath Dixit and deputy medical superintendent Dr Preeti Birajdar were present.

No clarity about the strain

Any virus changes its form after some time. It is unknown at this time about the exact strain. Currently, Covid-19 symptoms are the same as before. The rate of transmission from one to another will be clear in the next few days, said Dr Yelikar said.
