Drop-in patients hint at city's move to defeat Coronavirus; rise in patients from rural sector worries officials

Aurangabad, May 6:

There was a huge reporting of Covid-19 patients in the last two months in the district. However, the administration heaves a sigh of relief with the drop in the detection of Coronavirus infected patients, after a gap of two months, in the city. However, the rise in patients from the rural sector is worrying the administration.

There was a huge outbreak in February and the strength of active patients tolled 50,000 in the district. Later on, the population of patients recovering from the disease started to increase and the graph which was scaling upwards started moving downwards. There were 9,444 active patients (2,785 from the city and 6,659 from the rural) reported in the district on Wednesday (May 5). Of which, 30 percent are from the urban sector and 70 are from the rural sector. We could

assume that the city has started marching towards defeating the Coronavirus.

Drop-in patients in 36 days

There were 10,915 patients undergoing treatment in the city on March 31. The figure reduced to 2,785 on May 5. On the other hand, there were 4,655 active patients in the rural sector on March 31. This figure scaled up to 6,659 on Wednesday.

The health administration would now be focussing on taking effective measures to control the rise of patients in the rural sector. The recovery rate of patients in the city is 94.52 pc.

The status of new patients and old patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city was 497 and 4948 on April 26. The status reported downwards and there was reporting of 381 new patients and 2,785 old patients on May 5, it is learnt.

Break the Chain, vaccination, self-discipline

The AMC administrator A K Pandey said, " There is a drop in reporting of Covid-19 patients due to implementation of Break the Chain guidelines, vaccination drives and the most importantly the self-disciplined attitude of the citizens. However, we could stay relaxed as the danger is still lurking and we have to prepare for the possible third wave. We will be improving health facilities, develop medical infrastructure, create awareness amongst the citizens about the three-points programme, encourage them to maintain a self-discipline attitude, and speed up the vaccination drive. This would help enable the citizens to stay safe and secure."
