Garbage without segregation accumulated at GMCH

Aurangabad, May 7:

Garbage without segregation has been accumulated at three places at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Hence, the measures to boost garbage management like training and competitions remained a farce. The garbage produced from the wards is increasing and the employees have to segregate the garbage. Separate bags are provided for medical, dry, plastic and other wastes. Similarly, guidelines have also been given from the administration regarding the use of various colours bags for separate wastes. As the mixed garbage is coming from the wards, the municipal corporation did not take away the garbage. Only bio-waste is taken by the vehicles. Hence, heaps of garbage have been accumulated in the premises at Super Specialty Block, Medicine and surgical buildings.

Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar said that strict measures will be implemented for the segregation of different types of garbage. There is a shortage of manpower for the segregation. Still, the garbage is segregated and disposed. Medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Vikas Rathod, Dr Sanjay Wakudkar are keeping a strict vigil on the disposal of the waste, she said.
