GCH to be the first in state to pediatric oncology course

Aurangabad, April 3:

A team from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) on Saturday surveyed the Government Cancer Hospital (GCH) for four posts of DM Pediatric Oncology (Pediatric Cancer) super speciality course. A team from the National Medical Commission (NMC) will also survey the hospital.

The team also conducted an inspection for increasing postgraduate courses seats in 4 departments of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals (GMCH). The courses include Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Geriatrics and DM Neonatology. The team reviewed the facilities in these departments, said the head of the department of geriatrics, Dr Mangala Borkar. There are currently 183 postgraduate seats in the GMCH. With the increase in the number of seats, the number of junior resident doctors in the GMCH will increase. Efforts are being made to increase the number of postgraduate seats under the guidance of dean Dr Kanan Yelikar. Officer on special duty Dr Arvind Gaikwad, head of the department of pediatric cancer Dr Aditi Lingayat and others were present.

Increase in seats:

Anaesthesia - 17 to 25

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics- 19 to 21

Paediatrics - 9 to 12

Department of Geriatrics - 3 to 5

DM Neonatology - 1 to 4
