Good news for M Phil candidates; opportunity to be given to complete research

Aurangabad, June 29:

There is good news for those M Phil candidates who have not submitted the dissertation or appeared for viva voce to get one opportunity to complete the research.

It may be noted that the University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to scrap M Phil with the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP).

Hundreds of MPhil candidates have not submitted their dissertation during the last seven to eight years for reasons like poor financial condition and migration to another job.

Those who have qualified M Phil are eligible for Ph D admissions.

The deadline for dissertation submission for M Phil batch 2016-17 ended in June 2020. Following the demand from students and Covid situation, the university decided to extend the date. It issued a circular in November 2020 asking all the candidates to submit their dissertation by December 31, 2020.

More than 500 candidates of other batches feel that they should be given one opportunity to submit their dissertation to complete their research.

According to sources, more than 200 candidates submitted their dissertation so far and they have been waiting for viva voce so that they can become eligible for Ph D admissions. Each candidate will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for the delay in dissertation submission.

University officers told this newspaper that a notification to allow submission of dissertation and holding viva would be issued in the next one or two days.

They said that a note is being prepared and presented before the Pro-vice-chancellor on June 30 for dissertation permission of old batches.

Meanwhile, State unit secretary of Samyak Vidyarthi Andolan Prakash Ingle said that since the UGC decided to scrap the degree, all those who could not complete their M Phil research should be given one opportunity.
