Goons beat youth refusing to give money for alcohol at petrol pump; whisked away Rs 7K from pocket

Aurangabad, July 20:

In a surprising development, two notorious goons injured youth with a stone and whisked away cash of Rs 7,000 from his pocket, after he refused to give money to them for drinking liquor. The hair raising incident has taken place at a petrol pump on Pundaliknagar Road on July 19 evening. After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police succeeded in arresting one goon.

The name of the accused arrested is Vinod Maroti Gaikwad (20, Pundaliknagar vicinity). According to complainant Vasant Babu Chavan (23, Vishalnagar), works in the marketing section with a private entity. After finishing his works in Kannad and his colleagues returned to the city in the evening. He had been to the petrol pump to fill the fuel in his car. The driver was filling the fuel, till then Chavan and one female colleague came out of the car and were waiting outside. In the meantime, two unidentified persons came near them, and one of them told to give them money for drinking alcohol. When Chavan refused to entertain, one of them started abusing and beat him. When he resisted, the accused picked up one stone and hit it in his head. Chavan sustained injuries on the neck and head. He started feeling giddiness and sat on the ground. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused took out Rs 7,000 from his pocket and fled away. Another accused also damaged the window panes of the car. The colleagues of Chavan tried to catch them, but the goons threatened them and fled away.

Chavan lodged a complaint with the Pundaliknagar police station. The assistant police inspector Ghanshyam Sonawane and his team along with the Detection Branch visited the spot and viewed the whole incident captured in the CCTV cameras of the petrol pump. They identified Vinod Gaikwad and succeeded in arresting him last midnight. Vinod tried to damage the chairs and also spoke rudely to the police, said the sources. Meanwhile, the police have launched a hunt to detect the second accomplice in the crime.
