Gram Sevaks to stop work from Thursday

Aurangabad, Jan 20:

Sanjay Shinde, a Gram Sevak of Bidkin Gram Panchayat, tried to commit suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday. The Gram Sevak association has alleged that Shinde took this step due to harassment by his superiors. Therefore, the district branch of the Maharashtra Rajya Gram Sevak union has warned that the block development officer (BDO) of Paithan should be removed immediately, otherwise all the Gram Sevaks of the district will stop work from Thursday.

A delegation met Zilla Parishad vice president L G Gaikwad and informed him about the harassment faced by Shinde from the BDO. Gaikwad instructed additional chief executive officer Santosh Kavade to take action against the BDO. The delegation also met deputy CEO of Panchayat Samiti Dr Sunil Bhokre and deputy CEO general administrative department Shirish Bansode. The officials assured that the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against the guilty. The delegation also met divisional commissioner Sunil Kendrekar. He also promised action, said Bhimraj Dane, president of the union. According to the statement, V D Londhe, BDO Paithan, harasses gram sevaks with unnecessary inquiries and demands bribe for withdrawal of cash from banks. He has suspended some gram sevaks for not fulfilling his demands. Therefore, Gram Sevaks are working under terror. Hence he should be removed from the post and a CID investigation must be launched. The delegation includes Pundalik Patil, Suresh Kalwane, Pravin Nalawade and others.
