HC grants interim stay over fee recovery of medical students

Aurangabad, July 8:

Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice R N Ladda on Wednesday granted an interim stay over withholding educational documents for the tuition fees recovery of students whose parents are teachers.

According to details, Gauri Swami,Syeda Aziz Fatima, Gaurav Pande and other 21 MBBS students who completed the degree from Latur-based Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Institute of Medical Sciences filed a petition through adv Shivkumar Mathpati.

As per the old norms of the School Education Department, education was being given free up to postgraduation to the children of teachers who work in primary, secondary and higher secondary or working in Municipal Corporations and Councils, Zilla Parishad and Educational Boards schools in the State.

However, the State Government issued new orders dated March 16, 2021 stating that children of teachers should be considered eligible for the Government prescribed tuition fees only instead of a free education scheme.

The documents of petitioners who are doing an internship on completion of MBBS were withheld by the college. So, they filed a petition stating that the revised norms should be implemented with the effect of the issuance date instead of the previous context.

Granting inter stay, the court issued directives to serve notice to the respondents. Adv M A Deshpande appeared for the Government.
