IPL bookies make Rs 2 crores transaction daily

Aurangabad, Oct 12:

The police on Saturday busted the gambling racket on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament on Saturday night. Daily, the bookies conduct the gambling transactions of around Rs 2 crores in the city on the cricket matches, the sources said.

It may be noted that Jinsi police on Saturday arrested Ganesh Kachru Vyavhare, who operated online gambling on IPL matches. It was found that the kingpin of the racket is Manoj Dagda. He used to run it secretly and had taken care that his name should come to the fore. He used to collect money through online paytm and other valets. He take precautions in operations and did not deposit a single rupee in his account or collect it directly from the gamblers. However, he sent gambling rates on the mobile phone of Vyavhare for the past few days. When the news of the arrest of Vyavhare spread, Dagda was at large since then. It was found that around 2000 persons gamble on IPL matches in the city. Each person gambles from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2 lakh. The gambling transaction of around Rs 2 crores is done in the city on each match, the sources said.

Meanwhile, PSI, Datta Shelke said that the call details of the mobile phones of the accused has been sought while the deleted data of the Whatsapp chat of the accused will be sent to the Kalina laboratory for recovering the data.

Gambling on cricket matches is not new in the city. The police had busted the gambling rackets in 2014 and 2017 at Osmanpura and R B Hill Office, respectively.
