Kidney transplant successful despite difference in blood group, recovered from covid

Aurangabad, June 3:

In a rare medical feat, a 53-year-old patient got a new lease of life when a successful kidney transplant was performed on him despite his blood group being different from the donor. Similarly, both patient and the donor had recovered from Covid-19. A team of doctors from Medicover Hospital and Seth Nandlal Dhoot Hospital successfully performed this rare feat.

According to information, a 53-year-old man (blood group O ) living in Pusad in Yavatmal district was diagnosed with kidney disease. For a few years he took treatment at Nanded, Nagpur and Hyderabad. But kidney disease continued to increase and in 2020 dialysis was started. Kidney transplant was the only option. A donor from the family was ready to donate his kidney, but his blood type (B ) was different. As kidney transplantation of different blood type was taking place in Aurangabad for the first time, the patient has to undergo further treatment at Medicover Hospital under the supervision of Dr Sachin Soni. Necessary treatment for blood group matching was done at Medicover Hospital before transplantation and then kidney transplant surgery was successfully performed at Seth Nandlal Dhoot Hospital. Team comprising of Dr Ajay Oswal, Dr Sachin Soni, Dr Devdatta Palanitkar, Dr Vaishali Chaure, Dr S Farooq performed the operation. This is the first successful kidney transplant of a different blood type in Aurangabad after both the patient and the donor recovered from the corona infection, said Dhoot hospital administrator Dr Himanshu Gupta and the head and chief administrator of Medicover hospital Dr Neha Jain. There were fears of complications after surgery due to corona infection. But due to the careful treatment, both the patients are recovering, said Dr Santosh Yadav from Medicover.
