Mangalsutra thieves nabbed within 24 hours

Aurangabad, Oct 25:

Three thieves have been arrested for snatching a three-and-a-half tolas of gold mangalsutra from a woman on Saturday. The crime branch police nabbed the thieves within 24 hours and recovered mangalsutra worth about Rs 1.40 lakh.

The arrested accused are Aniket Raosaheb Hiwale (22, Jaybhavani Nagar, Mukundwadi), Sachin Jalindar Popalghat (21, Ambikanagar) and Vicky alias Helmet Gautam Sonkamble (30). According to police, Rupali Vijay Gharte (35), a resident of Cidco N-4, was walking towards Kamgar Chowk on Saturday evening to buy flowers. At the same time, one of the triple-seat motorcyclists snatched the mangalsutra and drove towards MIT hospital. A case was registered at the Pundalikanagar police station following a complaint lodged by Rupali after the incident.

On Sunday, crime branch police launched an investigation into the matter. Examination of various CCTV footage of the road revealed three thieves on a red unnumbered Pulsar motorcycle. When the police showed the footage to the informers, they came to know that the motorcycle belonged to a person named Hiwale and was at Mukundwadi. Accordingly, the police set a trap there. After some time, two suspects Aniket and Sachin were arrested by the police. A third accused Vicky alias Helmet was also arrested from Mukundwadi area shortly after. The mangalsutra was seized from the accused. This action was successfully carried out by sub-inspector of crime branch Vijay Jadhav, ASI Nazir Pathan, Parbhat Mhaske, Sandeep Beedkar, Vijay Bhanuse, Nitin Dhule and others.
