Mayor-Deputy Mayor election of Jalgaon municipal corporation to be held online

Aurangabad, March 17:

The Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court has not granted a stay on the petition filed for holding direct voting in the house instead of online for the election for the post of Mayor-Deputy Mayor of Jalgaon municipal corporation. As a result, the elections scheduled on March 18 will be held online.

The petition was heard before a bench of Justice Sanjay Gangapurwala and Justice Shrikant Kulkarni on Wednesday. Ranjana Vijay Sonar and Vishwanath Suresh Khadke had challenged the decision of the divisional commissioner and municipal commissioners dated March 5, 2021 for holding elections online. The petition stated that elections of other municipal corporations in the state were held through direct voting. So why Jalgaon municipal corporation is an exception. They had requested that the election be held in a credible and transparent manner by voting in person. After hearing the court gave the above orders. Advocates Amarjitsingh Girase, Yogesh Bolkar, Dnyaneshwar Bagul and Vishnu Madan Patil represented on behalf of the petitioners. Chief public prosecutor D R Kale represented on behalf of the government.
