Model Dry Waste Centre inaugurated

Aurangabad, Jan 18: Industries and guardian minister of Aurangabad Subhash Desai inaugurated the Dry Waste Processing Centre and a biogas plant at Kanchanwadi, recently. Established by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in collaboration with a city-based NGO, Centre for Applied Research and People’s Engagement (CARPE), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) Pvt Ltd, the centre will process dry waste collected from the entire zone 8 area. It will also engage waste pickers who will segregate the waste into different categories and send it for recycling. The income thus generated will be directly received by the waste pickers.

A Miyawaki Native Forest of over 100 trees of 17 native species was also planted at the centre by CARPE’s sister concern Ecosattva Environment Solutions Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Grind Master Machines Pvt Ltd.

Desai was accompanied by former MP Chandrakant Khaire, MLA Sanjay Shirsath, Shiv Sena district president and MLC Ambadas Danve. Municipal administrator Astik Kumar Pandey, SWM in-charge Nandkishor Bhombe, founders of CARPE and EcoSattva Natasha Zarine and Gauri Mirashi and others planned and managed the event.
