More than two hundred students get Ph.D in seven months

Aurangabad, Feb 5:

During the lockdown, all sectors of the country like finance, industry, education were affected. Even so, within seven months of the lockdown, more than two hundred students of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) have completed their Ph.D.

It is learned that the entire education system was paralyzed in the lockdown. However, in the meantime, many research students had completed their research and submitted their final dissertation to the university. However, the external examiner in related disciplines from outside universities or colleges could not come to Aurangabad to conduct student interviews (Viva) due to lockdown. For this, the vice-chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole issued an ordinance at the university level to start the process of taking online viva of research students. Generally, from June, the responsibility of conducting online interviews has been handed over to the superintendents instead of the head of the department.

It is said that often the teachers or students of the respective subjects or departments did not participate in the online viva. Therefore, there has not been much attempt to get details of the research from the student. As a result, none of the dissertations was rejected. Hence more than two hundred research students received Ph.D. According to sources, the responsibility of taking viva has been handed over to the head of the department as before.
