MSEDCL contractual employee arrested for taking bribe

Aurangabad, Feb 3:

The Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) contractual meter reader red-handed at Padegaon on Wednesday afternoon for accepting Rs 2000 bribe from the consumer to change a faulty meter.

The arrested employee has been identified as Parmeshwar Uttam Chavan (26, Deolai area).

The ACB officers said that the electricity meter of a MSEDCL consumer complainant at Padegaon was defunct. Chavan had gone to his house and told him that he can change the defunct meter for which he will take Rs 2,500. The complainant lodged a complaint at ACB. PI Shubhangi Suryawanshi under the guidance of senior officer laid a trap at the house of the complainant. After negotiation, a deal of Rs 2,000 was fixed. He took Rs 2,000 and the officers arrested him red-handed with the bribe amount. Accused Chavan is a contractual employee at the MSEDCL Khadkeshwar branch. A case has been registered at the Cantonment police station.
