Mucormycosis claiming lives at an alarming pace

Aurangabad, June 2:

The number of victims of mucormycosis in Aurangabad is rising at an alarming level. So far 80 patients have died in Aurangabad. The total number of patients in the district has reached 767. Fortunately, 355 of these patients have recovered. At present 332 patients are undergoing treatment.

Necessary injections are being supplied by the government on the basis of the statistics of the number of mucormycosis patients mentioned on the government's website. It was instructed to keep the information of the patients undergoing treatment updated regularly on the government website. Therefore, the district administration and the health department are compiling and updating the information of the patients undergoing treatment and death from the hospitals. According to the website, 80 patients have died of mucormycosis so far, said district surgeon S V Kulkarni. More patients have returned after treatment than are currently being treated. So there is some relief. Sanjay Kale, joint commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, said the injection distributors required for patients with mucormycosis are not sent to private hospitals. These injections come from the health department and are distributed through them.

Deaths reach 80 in 4 days

In Aurangabad, 53 patients died of mucormycosis on May 28, as per the health administration. In just 4 days, the number has gone up to 80. Nearly 27 deaths have been reported in these 4 days.
