Aurangabad, Oct 18:

As many as 13 new cars are being purchased for municipal officials by spending Rs 1 crore. The vehicles are being procured for all 9 ward officers, 4 department heads. The municipal administration had put forward a proposal to buy the vehicle two years ago, but it was withdrawn due to strong opposition.

At present the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has a total of 279 vehicles of all types. It includes 25 cars and 15 jeeps. Some of these cars are old. Therefore, instead of using these cars, some officials use a private car and get a monthly allowance of Rs 15,000 from AMC. As a result, the corporation had decided to purchase 27 cars for 27 officers.

But due to the dire financial situation of the corporation, the political parties raised criticism. The administration rescinded and canceled the car purchase. Now AMC has decided to buy 13 cars again. Preparations have been started by the mechanical department in this regard. Sources said that the purchase will be made soon.

It will cost at least Rs 1 crore to buy 13 cars. Out of this, the mechanical department has a depreciation fund of Rs 50 lakh. The municipal corporation had earlier auctioned some scrap vehicles. This amount has been received from it. A new car will be purchased by adding some amount from the municipal coffers.
