NET-SET holders to deprive job universities because of new UGC norms

Aurangabad, May 22:

Those aspirants who have qualified NET/SET will have to do Ph D, otherwise, they would not be able to get jobs as an assistant professor in any universities as per the revised norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The UGC revised norms and made Ph D compulsory for entry-level teachers job in universities from July 1, 2021.

The recruitment process of the post assistant professor was not held in universities from 2010 and colleges 2017. The ban on recruitment was lifted for some time, but only a few were benefited from it.There are 10,000 NET/SET holders who are likely to deprive of the job opportunity but, they are eligible for the job in colleges.

Around 130 posts of assistant professor, associate professor and professors are vacant in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University while in the affiliated colleges, the number is 850.

The number of NET/SET qualified candidates has increased up to 10,000 in the region during the last five to10 years. The candidates will have to do Ph D to be eligible for the jobs in the universities.

Marathwada, president of Bahujan NET/SET Holders Association Mohan Saunderye, expressed displeasure over the new norms of UGC.

“Many NET/SET holders who have been waiting for jobs for the past several years are upset. Candidates from Bahujan Samaj will be in trouble because of the new norms. We will have to knock on the door of the court to stop the implementation of the new norms,” he added.
