Aurangabad, July 7:

Work on a new water supply scheme worth Rs 1,680 crore has been started to quench the thirst of the city. The construction of overhead water tanks at 11 places in the city is in full swing. Some of the old water tanks will be demolished and new ones will be built. For this, the officials of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) inspected the places at Khasgate at Jinsi and Jubilee Park.

Work on the new water supply scheme is underway through Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). Work is also underway to lay water lines in various areas in the city. A large MBR is being set up at Nakshatrawadi to store water by the AMC. A total of 56 new overhead water tanks will be constructed in the city. Work is underway to find land for the tanks. It is planned to build two large water tanks at the back of the TV centre ground. City engineer Sakharam Panjhade informed that the land belonging to the municipal corporation will be used for construction of the tanks. The officials inspected about two and a half acres of land at Khasgate. It will take a lot of space to build a big water tank here. It was observed that two acres of land of the corporation was encroached. The retired employees of the corporation did not vacate their houses and some have also done construction. Soon, administrator Astik Kumar Pandey will take an independent decision in this regard, officials said.
