NIHSAD directs AMC to keep zoo close

Aurangabad, Jan 11:

Considering the possible threat of Bird flu across the country, the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) has directed the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to keep the zoo at Siddharth Garden close for some days.

Bird flu has started spreading in various states in the country including Maharashtra. Earlier, the National Zoo Authority had directed to keep the zoo close due to Corona to save the animals from the infection. Hence, the zoo has not yet been started by the corporation. Now, Bird flu has started taking its head up and the virus is rapidly spread through the air. Hence, there is maximum risk of infection to birds and animals. Chicken and birds are dying due to bird flu. Hence, the administration has been directed to take safety measures to stop the spread of bird flu.

AMC animal husbandry officer and zoo director, Dr B S Naikwade said, NIHSAD has directed to keep the zoo close for the public. Similary, other directives like giving clean meat to the animals after washing in salted water, regular checkup and animals should come in minimum contact with each other and others have also been issued. Hence, scarecrows have been erected at various places in the zoo so that the bird should not come near the cages of the animals, Dr Naikwade said.
