Aurangabad, Oct 17:

The financial crunch is Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which is ongoing for past many years, had sealed the development of city due to non-recovery of water tax to the tune of Rs 321 crore (excluding current year demand of water tax of Rs 61 crore).

The current year target of water tax collection was Rs 61 crore, out of which, the AMC could collect Rs 13 crore, in past 6-7 months.

The civic chief and administrator A K Pandey shared the outstanding figures of water tax. " A total of 1.16 lakh water connections are on AMC record. It includes 1.14 lakh residential connections and around 2,000 commercial connections. The civic administration will be fixing water-meters, and the Smart City Project will allocate the fund. Pune''s Blue Stream Society will prepare the project report. As soon as the task of fitting meters would start, the AMC team will simultaneously launch a drive to detect illegal connections in the city," explained Pandey.

It has come to notice that majority of the citizens avoid paying the water tax of Rs 4,050. They are disappointed on receiving water on the gap of 6-7 days.

Residential Connections: There are 1.14 lakh residential connections. The total outstanding upon the residential connection-holders is Rs 264.98 crore, while the current year demand for water tax is Rs 49.14 crore. Hence the dues to be recovered from residential connection-holders is Rs 314.13 crore.

Commercial Connections: There are 1923 commercial connections. The dues upon them are Rs 56.55 crore and the current year demand for water tax is Rs 11.80 crore. Hence the total outstanding to be recovered is Rs 68.36 crore.
