Old Proposal: Female citizens demand completion of five dedicated toilets on priority

Aurangabad, Jan 22:

The female citizens expressed their disappointment over the failure of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in constructing five dedicated toilets, as announced for them, four years ago. As per the old proposal, five toilets were supposed to be built within six months in 2017.

A few days ago, the AMC administrator A K Pandey announced constructing 100 new toilets in the city. It includes 50 each for males and females. In reaction to the statement, the women folk opined the civic body, instead of building 50 new toilets, first complete the five toilets as was assured to them.

Four years ago, the AMC had announced to construct five toilets for ladies at Begumpura, Paithan Gate, Botanical Garden (N-8 Cidco), Aurangpura and Jubilee Park. The provision of around Rs 65 lakh was also made in the budget. As on today, the toilets at Begumpura and Aurangpura are ready but are locked. The construction till slab-level is completed in Botanical Garden, while there are land disputes in Jubilee Park and Paithan Gate.

The females also stressed on the need for maintaining the existing ones in the city. We want ten good toilets rather than 100 new ones they mentioned.

Adv Madhuri Adwant said that the women had got tired of pursuing the matter. The civic body failed to build five toilets for women in the past four years. The announcement of 50 more is good news. Instead of fibre-bodied toilets, the AMC should build toilets of stainless steel like the ones in Gujarat and Indore as they are sustainable ones.
